Sure, fall days mean less daylight but that’s certainly no reason to stop boating. It’s still plenty warm enough to take advantage of sunny days and crisp evenings while having a great time on the water.
And while an excursion around the lake is always good for the soul, particularly in the fall when the leaves are so beautiful, beaching the boat and taking advantage of an empty cove is a great way to spend an evening or two. Plenty of folks like to motor out to their favorite little islands or coves and enjoy some R&R.
Camping at at the lake
If your goal is to spend the night, make sure you have all the essentials, which could include a tent (along with either sand or hard ground stakes), sleeping bags, an inflatable mattress, flashlight, bug spray, toilet paper (unless you want to bring along your own porta-potty), etc.
If you’re a serious camper, you might also bring all the necessary tools to cook, which might include a small propane stove, a pot and/or skillet, a lighter, plates, utensils, knife and a can opener. Regarding food, you’ll need a cooler, plenty of water, frozen or pre-cooked meals, bread, sandwich meat, maybe some fruit and whatever else you might be in the mood for (coffee, soft drinks, etc).
Fishing for dinner
Or If you’re planning on really roughing it and fishing, then cooking up dinner don’t forget the fishing rod and all the fishing necessities, a bit of oil, etc. And while you’ve got that campfire whether you’re frying up fish or not there’s no better time or place to enjoy some roasted marshmallows. Better than that? How about serving up some’s mores toast some marshmallows over the fire until they’re gooey, then stick them between two graham crackers with a Hershey’s bar and voila, you’ve got the greatest camping treat ever invented.
Relaxing in a hammock
If you’re not into spending more than a few hours at your site, bringing an ENO hammock with you would be a great way to enjoy some solitude while getting a little closer to nature. They’re easily folded into a compression stuff sack for storage or transport, made of breathable and quick-drying nylon, comfortable and strong enough to hold up to 400 pounds and keep you suspended, so that you’re never touching the ground. Imagine lying in an ENO and being able to leisurely check out all the gorgeous trees and leaves.
Regardless of how much time you plan on spending on a beach or cove during the fall, there’s plenty of fun, great sights and relaxation to be had!
