With warm weather right around the corner, it seems fitting to share some of our favorite spring activities.
Here are a few ideas for our Northeast and Southeast Tennessee folk to kick off your spring season. PSA: none of them involve any sort of spring cleaning.
Hiking
Northeast Tennessee:
One of the best times of year to go on a hike is in the spring and Buffalo Mountain Park showcases some of Johnson City’s best views. The blossoming trees and temperate weather make this month one of the best times to explore this iconic sight. Check out what else the Appalachian Mountains have to offer at 10 of The Best Hikes in Northeast Tennessee.
Southeast Tennessee:
Benton Falls sits right at the top of favorite hiking spots for Chattanoogans. Its beautiful trees and breathtaking 65 foot tall waterfalls have captivated the hearts of hiking fanatics for years. Fishing
Northeast Tennessee
Up in Northeast Tennessee, South Holston Lake prides itself on great fishing. The reservoir’s water clarity and low productivity make the fishing unbeatable. Tennessee Wildlife Resources reports “Quality smallmouth and largemouth bass fisheries are present. Walleye, rainbow trout, black crappie, and catfish are other popular game fish. The forage base is made up of a mixture of gizzard shad, threadfin shad, alewife, bluegill, and various minnows.” Check out Fishing at South Holston Lake for some more fishing tips this spring.
Southeast Tennessee
Chickamauga Lake is a favorite fishing spot for many Chattanooga residents. Chickamauga Reservoir offers a variety of habitat types such as, stumps, laydowns, humps, points, rocky shorelines, aquatic vegetation, and others that support a variety of fish species. A calm early morning out on this beautiful lake sets anyone up for the chance to enjoy some amazing bass fishing. Evan Anderson shares 3 Bass Fishing Secrets of Lake Chickamauga to help you out in your fishing endeavors this season.
Biking
Northeast Tennessee
Although the Appalachian Mountains are breathtaking, they don’t always create the most leisurely biking environment. However, we’ve managed to find the best of both worlds on the famous Tweetsie Trail. The beautiful winding trail takes you through a myriad of parks, quarries, and trailheads all while gazing at the beautiful mountains. Tweetsie Trail is family friendly, safe, and easy to navigate. This site, Tweetsie Trail- City of Johnson City, provides a map and other activities around the area.
Southeast Tennessee
