Summer is coming to an end, and for many, the boating season is also coming to an end. Sure, a lot of people put their boats up after Labor Day, but if you are a Carefree Boat Club member – you don’t have to! There are a lot of ways to enjoy the lake, even after the summer crowd has faded into the sunset. We’ll throw out a few ideas of things you can do to make the most of the fall on the lake!
Catch the leaves at their peak color.
Everybody loves seeing the fall leaves in east Tennessee. The leaves should be at their peak color around the middle and toward the end of October. Instead of being rushed along I-26 or hurriedly trying to snap some pictures on the Blue Ridge Parkway – take out a pontoon boat and go float in the middle of it! Soak it in, and take as many photos as you like. A fall cruise on the lake is a fantastic way to take in the sights at your own pace.
Pack a picnic lunch and make an event out of it.
While you are out on the lake, why not go ahead and take care of lunch or dinner, picnic style. It’s hard to think of a prettier place to enjoy dinner with your family! Keep the cool evenings in mind, though, and be sure to pack a thermos of something warm for when the wind gets chilly. Hot chocolate is an excellent choice that the whole family can enjoy.

If you are adventurous, why not spend the night on the lake.
Most lakes have islands or other areas that are camping friendly. You might even enjoy sleeping on the boat! Building a campfire to relax by is a great end to a relaxing fall cruise and will help take the chill out of the air. Be sure to check the rules and regulations around your lake, and make sure your camping trip doesn’t come to an abrupt end.
There are lots of ways to enjoy the lake in the fall. Sure, you may not hit the rope swing or let the kids go tubing, but there is no reason you can’t drum up some great family memories this fall on our area lakes.
