Watauga Lake marinas offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The impounded water flow below the dam allows for whitewater rafting and kayaking. This area has a reputation for houseboats and even holds an annual boat parade each July 4th. The southern shore consists of national recreational areas for picnicking, camping and offers the only public beach. Those looking to fish will find the reservoir stocked full of Black Crappie, Bluegill, Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass and Walleye.
Vessels
The boating variety is what makes the Watauga Lake marinas a key vacation spot. There is no horsepower or speed limit, so most boats are suitable. Those looking for a relaxing day of sun and swimming might consider a pontoon. Adventurists who want more speed can enjoy a sports boat with a little more bite.
