Fall is here, which means there’s no better time for a picnic. Sure, picnics in the summer are fun and enjoyable too, but there’s something special about picnicking in the fall the stunning colors of the changing leaves, the gorgeous sunsets, the cooler temperatures it all makes for a pretty special event. And when it takes place on your pontoon boat, it makes it all the more exceptional.
Give your pontoon a festive look
If you want it to be a memorable evening for your guests, establishing the right atmosphere is crucial. First, hit up some of your favorite stores and look for the right d©cor fall colors are so warm and inviting so grab some plaid throws, table clothes and pillows in dark orange, deep red, brown, vibrant yellow and dark green.
Next, if you’re planning to picnic at dusk, add some old-fashioned looking lanterns (you can get the kind that use bulbs), some colorful baskets (not just for looks, these can be used for bread, crackers, etc.) and some decorative bowls in the same fall colors will add the perfect touch. Oh, and just this once, forego any plastic or Styrofoam cups add some dark red, green or amber-color glasses from which to enjoy some delicious apple cider.
Placing a few mums in baskets around the boat is a great touch too, along with pumpkins (real or decorative) in various colors and sizes.
What to pack on your pontoon picnic
And now for the menu This, of course, all depends on what you want to serve. Serving hot foods, like steaks, burgers, chicken, etc., might be a better choice for summer time so for autumn weather, you might want to go with some lighter fare. Head to your favorite market and pick up an array of cheese, meat, crackers, crunchy breads, pickles and olives and you’re well on your way to hosting the perfect pontoon picnic.
Add some grapes, nuts, some gourmet mustard and cheese straws and you’re pretty much assured of getting raves reviews from your guests. The pice de r©·sis·tance? A great little dessert maybe apple tarts, pumpkin rolls or a spicy caramel treat with some after dinner coffee.
It won’t take a lot of time or money to host an incredible autumn picnic on your boat that your friends and family will not only enjoy, but remember and talk about for seasons to come.
