Now that summer is in full swing, so is the summer heat that goes along with it. With more than 50,000 miles of winding rivers and streams and more than a half million acres of beautiful lakes and diverse marshes – makes Tennessee a perfect place to cool off.  If you are wanting to enjoy nature in summer, here are some amazing water activities to put on your bucket list.

Lakes 

Tennessee is home to many rivers of paradise.  East Tennessee is home to some of the most beautiful deep and clear waters around.  Watauga, Boone, South Holston, Cherokee and Norris are just a few that are favorites in the area.  Traveling to the middle and western part of the state you will find Center Hill, Tim’s Ford, Chickamauga Lake and Barkley lakes that are perfect for watersports, camping areas and so much more.

Boating

Boating is extremely popular for much of the year in many of the popular lakes and rivers. Tennessee hosts hundreds of marinas on both the lakes and rivers.  Some of the major cities boaters can enjoy along the waterways include Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Memphis. You will find a variety of boats ranging from wakeboard boats, pontoons, houseboats, ski boats, paddle boards and kayaks.

Swimming Holes

Getting out in nature is a great way to unplug this summer.  With many swimming holes around the state, hikers can enjoy being in nature under the cover of the canopy and cool off at some seriously incredible places to take a natural dip.  From Chattanooga to East Tennessee – what better way to cool off than taking a plunge in some of the south’s best blue holes around.

Waterfalls

Many hiking trails can lead to overlooks or swimming holes, but some lead to some amazing waterfalls that are not only beautiful, but a great way to cool off after a challenging path.  The state has numerous waterfalls you and your family can enjoy this summer.  From the beauty of Fall Creek Falls, Greeter Falls, or Twin Falls- venture out this summer to enjoy the beauty of nature and cool off at the same time.

Waterparks

One sure way to stay cool this summer that the entire family will enjoy is to head to some of the areas top Waterparks.  Tennessee is home to some of the best waterparks, both indoor and outdoor, that are perfect for every age.  Whether you enjoy the fast, exciting slides, to chill out in the lazy river, or to ride the waves in the wave pools – head to your nearest water park and beat the summer heat anyway you like it.
