With a smaller lake and less water, the fish have fewer places to hide and a lot of the time, that makes them easier to catch.

There’s also been a lot less boat traffic on the lake, meaning less pressure on fish populations.

Some say the fishing on Boone Lake is the best it’s ever been, with reports of impressively large fish being brought in already this year.

Spring is a great time of year to start fishing on the lake because a lot of fish are coming up to the shallow water to feed and spawn.

Boone Lake contains several species that are of interest to recreational fishermen, including largemouth, smallmouth, striped, and hybrid bass.

Also, the fish will bite topwater bait this time of year which is one of the most fun ways to catch them, since you can see them when they bite. Local experts say the best place to catch fish is near the bank, especially where there’s brush in the water and the best time to go is in the early morning or late evening.

Also, a local boat club is now offering the opportunity to try out fishing on Boone Lake without having to own a boat.

Carefree Boat Club, which owns a fleet of recreational boats on Boone, Watauga, and South Holston lakes, put in its very first fishing boat this month on Boone Lake.

The boat is a brand new 23-foot Avalon GS CCF 2585, the first ever center-console quad fishing pontoon to the Carefree Boat Club! It comes with a 24V Minn Kota trolling motor and a Garmin fish/depth finder.

Boat club members have unlimited reserved access to the new fishing boat on Boone Lake as well as the club’s other boats.
