ABOUT CAREFREE BOAT CLUB BOONE LAKE

Rockingham Marina is centrally located on the lake.

If you take a right out of the marina you will be heading upstream on the Watauga branch of the lake. In this direction, you’ll come up on Jay’s Boat Dock (423) 283-4060 on your right. Jay’s has a great menu and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The next landmark in this direction is Pickens Bridge. Take care if you are towing a tube. As you continue on you’ll approach Carroll Creek Road on the lake. There is a cove off to the right that is home to Sonny’s Marina & Café (423) 282-9440. Sonny’s serves lunch and dinner and frequently hosts local bands. If you want to keep heading upstream on the Watauga, you’ll next come to Wing Deer Park, the new DeVault Bridge, and then Hidden Cove Marina. The area past DeVault Bridge opens up and is a great place to hang out when the lake is all the way up… Much of this area is shallow and goes dry during the winter. This is also pretty much the end of the navigable waters for prop driven boats.

If you take a left out of the marina, you will be heading downstream on the Watauga branch of the lake. The Watauga branch ends in a couple of miles – take a left to visit the dam or a right to head upstream on the South Holston branch of the lake. Heading that way you’ll first note Lakeview Dock (423) 323-4665 on your left. Lakeview is open for lunch and dinner with live entertainment many nights. The South Holston branch continues for many miles up to Bluff City. You’ll go through a series of switchbacks before coming to the old DeVault Bridge. Be careful on that last switchback before the bridge – if you cut between those islands, you’ll likely be sorry. Very shallow. After passing under the bridge, you’ll come to Boone Lake Marina (423) 391-7283. The lake continues to wind past Boone Lake Marina for a few more miles. Take a right as you pass Davis Boat Dock and you’ll find some secluded boating.

The TVA plans to raise Boone Lake to normal summer pool in 2021. Until this happens successfully, the above information is subject to change.

LOCATION IN REFERENCE TO BODY OF WATER

Rockingham Marina is conveniently located centrally between Johnson City and Kingsport on Boone Lake. Boone Lake was formed in 1952 by the TVA dam just downstream of the Watauga River dumping into the South Holston River. The marina is on the Watauga branch about two water miles upstream from the end of the Watauga River. Those familiar with the lake will know the “cut-through” which is a small waterway around a TVA island. Rockingham Marina is on the opposite side to the island from the “cut-through”.

MARINA AMENITIES

Rockingham Marina is a full service marina. Rockingham Marina’s new café menu has been completely reimagined by Chef Todd Dawn, formerly of the Bistro of Jonesborough, Tennessee. The new menu features fresh, lake-friendly sandwiches, salads, and sides, along with unique homemade ice creams and desserts. The café can also put together a “Picnic Pack” to take out on a boat for a day on the lake complete with snacks, sandwiches, sides, and drinks. Carefree Boat Club members enjoy 10% savings! The Carefree Boat Club hosts the floor plan for the dealership with all new 2020 Chaparral, Manitou, Cobalt, and Premier boats. Step on land and all of your boat servicing needs are met at the four bay service facility.
